now supports H.264 compression
What is H.264 and how does it work?
While
prior MPEG compression standards are still good and work very well, H.264 is the
newest standard for video compression and is possible because of increases in
CPU power. It offers many benefits for your surveillance needs. It provides remarkable
improvements for speed and picture quality over its commonly used predecessors--
the MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 compression standards.
H.264 offers:
(1)
Lower bit rates (2) Reduced file size and which reduces network bandwidth.
(3) Better Picture quality (4) Longer recording times as well. - For
example a given hard drive that could record a maximum of 40 hours using MPEG4,
would easily record over 70 hours using H.264. H.264's
predictive technology improvements over MPEG4 offer significant file size reduction. Take
the following example:
(1)You have an AXIS IP camera and you are recording your office.
(2)
Later some walks into your office and that person is now recorded on camera in
addition to the static background of your office. (3)
The H.264 algorithm will intelligently seek to recycle as much existing data as
possible by using prior static data from previous surveillance footage, such as
the walls, furniture, machines, etc. This static data is recycled more intelligently
with the H.264 predictive technology component. (4)
This done via the H.264 algorithm that utilizes a predictive inter frame "P
frame" component which is able to reference earlier frames. (5)
So, in a simple example, if someone walks into your office, H.264 will record
that person and be able to utilize a previously recorded background. (6)
32 frames of video can be referenced and sampled at any given point, which result
in extreme reliability and validity of the surveillance footage. (7)
This one of the key improvements that enables H.264 compression to offer a reduced
file size with increase speed, all while maintaining better image resolution. Visec
fully supports H.264 and is committed to continually providing the latest in video
surveillance technology to ensure that you have the best IP camera software in
world.
